This template combines completion data with evidence about hesitation, expectations, and perceived difficulty. It pairs realistic Prototype Tasks with participant voice recording, an immediate seven-point SEQ rating, and a focused AI follow-up after each task.

What this template measures

The template opens with prior familiarity for segmentation, followed by neutral think-aloud instructions. Configure device eligibility in Study Settings so participants are screened before the questionnaire begins. The flow avoids asking participants to inspect the first screen before the task, which can prime them to study the interface differently than they normally would.

Each task needs a realistic scenario, starting frame, and goal frame. The SEQ comes immediately after the task, before the AI follow-up can reshape the participant's memory of difficulty. Automatic completion status is meaningful only when the goal frame is configured; voice recording supplies the concurrent think-aloud evidence.

Who it's for

This template is for product designers and researchers evaluating a Figma prototype before engineering begins, especially when a new flow replaces an existing one. It also suits redesign work where completion data would miss participants who finished a task through a confused or roundabout path.

How the AI moderator probes

The AI moderator follows one-word answers such as "fine" or "confusing" with a request for specifics. If a participant says a task felt straightforward, the moderator asks what made it clear; the answer might identify a familiar layout, an expected label, or the placement of an action. If the participant hesitates or backtracks, it asks what they expected at that moment and why they tried a different path.

The probing adapts to each participant's account, so people who complete the same task can describe different reasoning. Add interviewer notes to focus probing on a specific screen or interaction. Tips before you launch

Set the starting and goal frame for each Prototype Task, then enable Record participant voice during task so you can review the path alongside the think-aloud commentary. Keep the session to two or three focused tasks; a longer list drives fatigue for reasons unrelated to the design.

What is a Single Ease Question, and why rate each task separately?

A Single Ease Question, or SEQ, is a seven-point Very difficult to Very easy rating asked immediately after a task. Repeating the identical item keeps task scores comparable and avoids contaminating the rating with later reflection.

Should this run as a real-participant study or an AI persona test?

Run it with real participants when you need evidence of how the target audience reasons and hesitates while using the prototype. Use an AI persona test earlier for directional feedback before real sessions are scheduled.

Where should device eligibility be configured?

Use the study device settings to allow or block desktop, tablet, and phone participants before the session starts. Do not ask participants to report their device again in the questionnaire.

How is this different from the qualitative usability interview template?

This template records task behavior, configured completion, and post-task ease. The qualitative usability interview focuses on first impressions, mental models, expectations, and what participants think they would do next.

How many tasks should a usability test include?

Two to three focused tasks per session works better than five or six, since task fatigue makes later tasks less reliable and participants start rushing through the think-aloud commentary.

Should participants use voice or text mode for a think-aloud test?

Enable Record participant voice during task on each Prototype Task so participants can narrate while navigating. The study conversation mode alone does not configure task recording.
